You use the HTC Touch, right? I didn't know HTC did that, but it's an interesting technique. They might be able to detect how large a screen area is being touched. A finger probably activates a larger area than a stylus does.
I use my fingers most of the time on my Omnia, but sometimes use the stylus just because it's faster if I'm doing a lot of work on my phone.
