Possible problem with the site?

Postby mpg187 » Tue Mar 16, 2010 7:00 pm

When I goto a page that makes me login (Such as search.php?search_id=egosearch a/k/a "View Your Posts") and login it says I've been logged in, when then I go back to the page it makes me login again. If I goto the index it acts like I am not logged in.

This happens in Firefox but not Opera.

I have had issues in the past on sites when using adblock, but I turned adblock off for this site and it only does it on this forum and not any other phpBB forum (operation420.net,phpbb.com,startrekguide.com)

Blame phpBB's horrible cookie handling. They recommended that I change my cookie settings, so I did. That locked even me out on both IE and Firefox. Even the Delete all board cookies function at the bottom of the board didn't get me back in (probably because it was deleting cookies for Guest, not my user ID).

I had to eventually delete the board's cookies manually (I use svpppc_phpbb3 here). If you do that, you should be able to log in again. (The reason it worked OK in Opera is probably because you had never visited using Opera before, so you didn't have the poisoned cookies.)

I suggested a way to handle that to phpBB.

Sorry about the inconvenience,
Steve

P.S. The reason that I changed the cookies was because the Last Topics/Last Posts scripts that I worked on for you kept logging me out with the old cookie settings. So, in a way, you're to blame for the problem.

How would those mess up the cookies? I think before I tried clearing my cookies (Using firefox's settings) and it didn't work. It appears to be working now...

My old Cookie path was set to something like "/discuss/". Because the scripts ran in my Web site's root, running them would cause you to get logged out of the forum. When I asked on phpBB.com how to fix that, they said to change the Cookie path to "/". When I did that, that caused the problem.

Apparently I should have also changed the Cookie name to something different, but nobody mentioned that until it was too late.
