Syncing Bookmarks

Postby mpg187 » Fri Dec 18, 2009 3:07 pm

I can transfer bookmarks from Pocket IE to IE on my Desktop/Laptop (Desktop in the context of normal computer compared to pocket PC running a "Desktop" OS and not a Server one). Is there a way I can sync my bookmarks from Opera Mobile?

Also syncing to Firefox would be nice. FF can import bookmarks from IE, not sure if it can write them back...

I haven't heard of any tools to sync from a Windows Mobile device back to a PC. For some reason, Microsoft only allows syncing from your PC to IE Mobile, but not the other way. I don't think other browsers have any syncing support at all.

Maybe you could sync your bookmarks on your PC to an online service and visit that service on the Windows Mobile device, though. That's not as simple as using browser bookmarks, of course.

I was able to copy the bookmarks to the PC. In IE there is a folder in my favorites called "Mobile Favorites"

It's acutally the other way I want. Sites I goto often I have on my homepage (http://bestwikiever.wikidot.com/mpglinks), my bookmarks are URLs I don't remember and would want to goto again. I post lots of links that that on my forum (Example: http://operation420.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1100). But it's hard to put them all there. I want to backup my bookmarks in case something happens (like I need to format my phone). I know Opera stores bookmarks under \Windows\Opera9\opera6.adr (I don't know why the file is called opera6). I can copy this file, even email it to myself on my phone, but it would be nice if it would be copied to my computer automatically when I plug in my phone. Is there a way I can make it copy the file automatically?

There used to be a tool called Mighty Sync from MyDocsUnlimited that would sync other folders, but they seem to be out of business. I remember Kelbran making a sync tool, too, but they seem to be out of business as well.

Maybe you could write a script with MortScript that would copy that file to your My Documents folder every time you changed it (or every so often), so that when you sync your device (assuming you sync files), it would be saved to your PC.

What type of code does MortScript use? I know batch/Linux shell script and HTML, so if it's like a command line syntax I could maybe, but I don't know C or anything like that.

Would be cool if I could learn C and write apps for my PPC...

I think it uses a simple set of commands, but I've never used it.

I've written a couple of small applications in eMbedded C++ (which was free). Now you might be better off learning C# and .NET, though.

If I would use .NET would I have to have the .NET framework installed? Because I hate the .NET framework. On PC and PPC. It's annoying to have to install it...

Most Windows Mobile devices (and PCs) come with .NET pre-installed now, I think. However, the big question is which version of .NET you'd be using and which is installed on your device. If you develop with the latest version, you'll probably also need that on your device.

That's even more annoying, when you have taken time to install it and you have to install it again...
