Windows Mobile Device Emulators

Postby mpg187 » Thu Nov 12, 2009 3:06 pm

Is it OK if I post some links to downloads for Windows Mobile Device Emulators? From what I understand is there might be copyright issues posting the OS, but aren't the emulators made by Microsoft themselves to help people develop and test software for their platform?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. My understanding is that Microsoft supplies an OS emulator with Visual Studio to help debug Windows Mobile programs. I don't know if you can somehow skin that or support other devices directly, but if you can, I don't have a problem with links to them as long as they're on Microsoft's site or the OEM's site. (In other words, nothing from shady Web sites or copyright violators, which includes XDA Developers.)

Steve

P.S. I don't have a problem with lots of what XDA Developers does; some of their members produce some great freeware. However, when they extract software from device ROM images or create OS ROMs for devices that wouldn't have had them, they are violating U.S. copyright law and possibly the Windows Mobile license agreement. That's why I wouldn't want links to them for this.

Links to member-created software are fine, though.

That's the link on MSes site. I am not sure if that's everything you need to run it or need a ROM. I have rapidshare links to ones that you just run. I am not sure if they violate copyright or not.

The emulator is fine, but if a ROM is on RapidShare, it's probably not legal. ;)
