EncFiltLog.menc file

Postby mpg187 » Thu Nov 12, 2009 3:04 pm

On my phone sometimes I see a file called "EncFiltLog.menc" and I don't know what it means. I tried Googling and got the page below:

Does it have something to do with encryption?

I'd never heard of that file before, but based on what I read, it could. Where do you see the file? That thread made it sound like it would show up on your storage card.

It would appear in the root directory of my HTC's Internal Storage Card (a/k/a Built in Memory)

In the Windows Mobile Settings System page, do you see an Encryption applet? If so, does it allow encrypting the built-in memory?

There appear to be some new posts in that linked topic now (some quite paranoid sounding).

What folder do you see that file in and when do you see it (when you're connected to WMDC, for example)? I don't see it in the root folders of my device or the storage card and I checked with both Resco File Explorer and the default File Explorer (plus Windows Explorer while I was connected to WMDC).

UPDATE: I just found it on my old 8 GB MicroSD card, though. That card was used in both my old Motorola Q9m and my Samsung Omnia.

I still have no idea what the file does, but I wouldn't worry about it if everything seems normal with your device.

I found it on the root of the "Storage card"

I wonder, should I delete the file? But if it keeps getting put there I would wanna know why...

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there's much information about this file. As I said, I would leave it alone. I deleted some innocuous-looking file once and it broke Pocket Internet Explorer.

The fact is that there are hundreds of system files on your device that you probably have no idea what they do, so unless this appears to be a virus or other type of malware, I would leave it alone.

It's weird though because it's not on the device (well the HTC storage is in the device). But if I unmount my internal storage the phone still works so deleting a file from it shouldn't do anything.

But anyways, there are also other files placed on my storage, I'll post about them later...
