Backup Text Messages

Postby mpg187 » Tue May 04, 2010 8:35 pm

Is there a way I can backup/restore my text messages and preferably have them in a format readable on my PC...

Preferably free software...

I haven't tried it, but Jeyo Mobile Companion can supposedly back up and restore texts in XML. It's not free, but there's a 15-day free trial.

Even better, there's Microsoft My Phone which does online backup and restore of many items on your phone, including texts. I have it back up my phone every night at 1 AM and recently used it to restore some text messages after I installed an OS update on my Samsung Omnia.

Microsoft My Phone will allow you to just back up Text Messages. Once they're on the Web site, I suppose that you could sort them and then save the Web page as an HTML file on your PC. A little editing would get only the messages you want to show. Maybe.

But, if you just want them on your PC, the Jeyo solution might be the way to go. There are also other text message backup programs out there, but I haven't tried any of them.

There's also another possible solution. I think text messages are stored in a system database, probably cemail.vol or maybe pim.vol. You can try copying those files to your PC, and then copying them back, but I've never tried that.

I will copy those files as a test but still use a program just in case.

I guess I could just copy them for now and restore them and worry about reading them on my computer later... I just need to hard-reset really bad...

When I go in Opera Mobile to Facebook my phone crashes for some reason, it never did before. Not just the browser closes, but the phone soft-resets.
