Windows Mobile Device Center not working all of a sudden

Postby mpg187 » Thu Apr 22, 2010 1:58 pm

My WMDC isn't working. I tried reinstalling it, rebooting the computer and my phone and still doens't work.

I am at school using Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit and am using the 64 bit version, it should work as it was working before.

I checked services and they all appear to be running...

Reinstalling should be the last thing to do. When I've looked in the Windows registry for ActiveSync, there was a unique ID created for the device. Maybe reinstalling changes that device ID. Can you establish a new partnership?

You should also give more information about the problem. How are you connecting (USB or Bluetooth)? What happens when you try to connect (do you hear the USB connection sound or not, does it start to connect and then error out, etc.)?

Using USB. I see the network adapter in network connections, I can even use MyMobiler to connect to 169.254.2.1 (IP of my Phone on the RNDIS Connection). Webserver also works...

I hear the connection sound but nothing happens. WMDC doens't start and when I start it, it says disconnected like there is on device connected (like if I would run it without plugging in my phone).

It's weird I've connected before on Windows 7 64 bit on my Tablet PC and my Laptop with Vista and even Ubuntu...

So this is a connection problem, not a syncing problem.

Check WMDC on your PC to ensure that USB connections are allowed. On your device, look for a USB to PC settings applet (under the Connections tab on my Samsung Omnia) and try reversing the Enable advanced network functionality setting. If neither of those work, try removing the phone's USB drivers on the PC and then reconnecting the phone.

Steve

P.S. I do start WMDC without connecting my phone, but I sync using Bluetooth.

I used to start as soon as I plugged in.

I tried disabling network functionality and it still doesn't work, besides it worked before with it on...

Oh yeah when I tried to reinstall WMDC there was an installing hardware dialog box and it said "Unknown Device" with a Red X and said "Device Unplugged" when my phone was plugged in.

Now when I plug it Windows give the USB Device not recognized message like the screenshot I found here : http://sgwindowsgroup.org/cfs-filesyste ... -error.jpg

Oh and it must be a WMDC error and not a physical connection error because I have tried different cables and I can still connect as a standard USB Flash Drive (Only seeing the HTC's 4GB Internal Storage which acts like an SD card on other PDAs, and I can't see my battery power remaining on the PC)

All I can suggest is deleting any partnerships on both your device and your PC, then uninstall any device drivers for the device on your PC (in the Device Manager Control Panel applet, possibly under Portable Devices). You want to make your device look brand new to your PC to force the driver reinstallation.

If that doesn't work, try the WMDC FAQs at Pocket PC FAQs. They've always had some of the best advice on ActiveSync and WMDC troubleshooting.

I assume that means that it didn't work (even after rebooting both devices).

All I can suggest is checking out the troubleshooting guides at Pocket PC FAQs.

I tried a few things there...

It doesn't work at home either. I assume now it's a problem on the my phone's end...

I shall try a reformatting after I back a few things up...
