Localhost phpBB on Windows Mobile

Postby mpg187 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 2:30 pm

Seeing as this is a Windows Mobile forum that uses phpBB this seems like a good place to ask. I want to have a localhost copy of my forum on my phone. Can this be done? I know that there are webservers for Pocket PC but I know phpBB needs php and SQL as well...

Good question. You'd need to compile PHP for Windows Mobile and either compile an open source DB for WM or try the SQL Server for WM, I think.

My question is why would you want it? It would probably eat lots of space on your device and run slowly.

Is there an SQL Server for WM?

I need to be able to access the contents of my forum anytime, even when I don't have a connection or if I am not around a computer...

Yes, and I thought it was shipping with WM by default by now (although that might not be true). Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 for Windows Mobile

Why? You'd have to back up your database, download it to your device and restore it every time. Even then, it could be out of date if somebody registered or posted.

Would the SQL Server for WInMO work with phpBB? Weird how they would include one, I like that there is one for people who want to use one, but most probably don't.

Well I backup my database all the time anyways, I can just use USB or Wifi to put it on my phone. Not perfect, but better than nothing...

I have no idea. You could probably lie and tell phpBB that you're using "full" SQL Server and see.

Of course, you'd still need a PHP processor for Windows Mobile.

Ya I would need a PHP processor and have to make it work with the webserver and SQL Server.

I know LAMP/WAMP/etc are packaged as one set of programs designed to work with each other...
