Calendar for PC

Postby mpg187 » Tue Dec 22, 2009 3:39 pm

I like how on my Pocket PCs I can enter in "Appointments" and my phone will remind me. Like I can make my phone go off everyday at 4:20 and when I was in high school I would enter all my classes into my iPAQ.

I would like to do this on my computer. I found a way to do this on Ubuntu (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1292482) but I would also like to know a way for Windows...

The best tool is probably Outlook, which you can sync directly with your Windows Mobile device. If you don't want to buy Outlook, Vista comes with Windows Calendar that looks similar to Outlook's Calendar. I don't know if that will sync to a WM device, though. Windows Mobile Device Center shows Contacts and Calendar (for Outlook) and something called "Appointments" and "Contacts" for something else, but I can't seem to check Appointments in the list. I hoped that those would also sync with Windows Calendar and Windows Contacts, but I can't tell.

I don't need to be able to Sync with my PPC, just be able to make seperate ones for my PC.

Then Windows Calendar should work fine. Do you have it?

As for syncing, being able to sync is a huge plus. It allows me to back up most of my important stuff without needing an online solution.

What versions have it?

It appears my Vista laptop has it. Does the Windows Calendar bring up a reminder when an event comes up?

I have no idea. I don't recall seeing it on XP, though.

You could easily test it. ;) Just set an event for 2 minutes from now. But, yes, it did when I tested it.

I'll try. My HP Laptop came with MS Works and that has a Calendar too.

My tablet only has XP (probably no Calendar) and doesn't have MS Works installed. But that's alright since it's not my main PC, and I am gonna put Windows 7 on it soon. Would be nice if there was an open source program and one where I wouldn't have to install the whole works suite...

When it showed the reminder for you, did you have Windows Calendar open? For me it doesn't show the reminders until the next time I open Windows Calendar, making it redundant. There is an option to have it still display reminders when it's not open. It's on, but not working. Is there a service or something that has to be on? I never turned anything off, but TuneUp utilities might have...

Works Calendar works, even when closed.

EDIT: Gay. Windows 7 doesn't come with the Calendar... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... s-calendar I don't wanna use Windows Live, I hate how MS is trying you to make a Live account...

Hmm, http://operation420.net/forum/viewtopic ... 4705#p4705
EDIT: Spoke to soon, it doesn't remind you when it's closed..

Yeah, I had Windows Calendar open. I was just testing it to see what reminders looked like. You'd think they'd have a service, but I don't know for sure. I don't think Outlook displays reminders until you start it, either, so maybe there isn't a service.

Of course, you could always put Windows Calendar in your Startup folder....

I'd just close it because I hate having lots of things open (although with the Windows 7 Taskbar it's less annoying because there it more room for programs.)

That could be a solution, but it would still be nice to have something that just does it without any setup...

Works Calendar does it. It's on my main laptop. Should I need it on my other PCs I'll have to see something...
